Portrait of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov by James Salomon, 2019

Tour of Emilia and Ilya Kabakov Studio

Continuing a tradition of studio visits that dates back to the mid-1950s, we invite our Individual and Family Friends to a private tour of Emilia and Ilya Kabakov’s studio on the North Fork. This is an exclusive opportunity to experience the expansive studio and collection of artworks of these pioneers of installation art.

Originally from Russia, Emilia and Ilya emigrated to the USA and have together produced, since 1989, over 200 immersive installations and other conceptual works based both in reality and fantasy, metaphorically addressing ideas of utopia, dreams, and fear to reflect on the universal human condition. A graphic artist and children’s book illustrator early on, Ilya has painted throughout his career.

We were honored to have the Kabakovs as guest speakers in our 2019 Artists Speak series and now have the privilege of accessing the couple’s East End home/studio compound where we will view firsthand paintings, sculptures, and collaborative projects in the place where they are conceived.
